2010/11 Review: Gw 3
After 6-0 drubbings in weeks gone past, this weekend failed to live up those lofty expectations. The EPL served up the routine 1-0 score-lines.
Elsewhere in Europe: both the Spanish and Italian seasons kicked-off. Barcelona and AC Milan impressed me the most.
There were a couple of shocking results in the Bundes Liga with German giants Bayern Munich losing to newly promoted Kaiserslaurtern. The game of the week for me was played out between Bayer Leverkusen V Munchengladbach, which produced a 9-goal spectacle. The home side lost out 3-6.
Things that caught my eye:
- Blackpool are no pushovers.
- Liverpool and Aston Villa secured vital wins.
- Rooney ended his goal scoring drought.
- Arsenal need a better goal keeper.

The Champions League draw threw up surprisingly easy groups, barring Group G. Where AC Milan were drawn against Real Madrid, Ajax and Auxerre. The competition starts on the 14th of September.
Games involving Manchester United V Rangers; Werder Bremen V Tottenham; Bayern V Roma; Real Madrid V Ajax should be the games to watch out for on Matchday 1.
In the EPL this week, I’m looking forward to Blackburn V Arsenal. Wenger is already trying to sway the referee to look out for Rovers man-handling his young lads.
Aston Villa V Everton is a game in which both teams have not kicked off their respective campaigns with any real urgency and they might just want to get things rolling.
My tips for the games this week:
Blackburn Rovers V Arsenal 1-2
Blackpool V Fulham 0-2
Chelsea V Stoke City 3-0
Tottenham V Wigan 3-1
Wolverhampton V Newcastle United 2-2
Manchester United V West Ham United 2-1
Bolton Wanderers V Birmingham City 2-1
Liverpool V West Bromwich Albion 2-0
Sunderland V Manchester City 1-2
Aston Villa V Everton 1-1

The main talking point this weekend was the 6-0 score lines. Apart from Joey Barton's moustache.

2010/11 Preview: Gw 2
The German Bundes Liga gets underway this weekend. With Bayern Munich looking to defend their title against what seems to be, in recent years, a very tough and entertaining league.
In the EPL the big game of this weekend has a Monday night kick-off and the teams involve are big-spending City and Hodgson’s Liverpool. In other note-worthy games; Fulham host Man united, last season Fulham humiliated the Devils with 3-0 drubbing.
Arsenal and Chelsea strikers have the opportunity to bag some goals against relatively easier opposition.
With Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Totenham Hotspur all having played in European qualifying games in the middle of the week. It will be interesting to see how they cope with a shorter recovery time.
My tips for this week’s game are:
Arsenal V Blackpool 2-1
Birmingham V Blackburn Rovers 1-1
Everton V Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0
Stoke City V Tottenham Hotspur 1-2
West Bromwich Albion V Sunderland 1-1
West Ham United V Bolton Wanderers 0-0
Wigan Athletic V Chelsea 0-3
Newcastle United V Aston Villa 0-2
Fulham V Manchester United 1-1
Manchester City V Liverpool 1-1
2010/11 Review: Gw 1
- Tottenham were frighteningly good in their opening encounter against Man City, but Joe Hart was better.
- Blackpool surprised everyone with their 4-0 thrashing of Wigan, and by going top of the table albeit for a brief period of time (they still are at the wrong end of the table).
- Not surprising however were Wigan’s, West Brom's awful display.
- Albrighton looks like a bright prospect. I don’t think Villa will miss Milner once he leaves.
- Joe Cole was a tad unfortunate; Koscielny was a tad silly; Arsenal a tad lucky.
- Oh!! BTW Chelsea and Man Utd carry on from where they left off last season.
